If I had a job...and it was on the line for something which I did not do, or is not my fault, then I would fight every inch to keep that job - especially in this current economic climate.

Been there, done that - tell them to ram it.

However, no one will thank you, you'll make a rod for your own back, and bite your financial nose of to spite your moral face in all probability.

But God it feels good.

Be as true to myself as I could be which may mean telling boss and HR how it is and walking away for the sake of the principle of the thing. It may also mean acknowledging that although it would be nice to walk away deep down you know you need/want the job. You have to think what it is that really means the most to you. No one else can tell you.

Yeah done this too, feels awesome but you must have an exit strategy and feel comfortable you can pay the mortgage next month.

Good luck!

if you tell em to shove it, you look guilty. get a union rep or colleague to come with you, state/fight your case and threaten tribunal if they sack you/discipline you without enough evidence or proof.

as has been said, find proof that at least would make it unfair dismissal

get backing, even if its a walk out or something

(just for the record, i've just graduated so am new to this job thing)

Make sure the HR department could not justify any action, that's what I'd be doing.

Dismissing an employee on capability grounds is a fairly long and tortuous process, you certainly can't be sacked for one instance of incompetence, even if you were.

Make sure you're represented at the meeting.

Yup, it's not easy to sack anyone like it was in the good old days!

Remember if they do anything like that and you take them to en employment tribunal it's the opposite (or should be!) of the court system - they're guilty until they can prove themselves innocent.

One slip up in proceedure on their part and it's all over for them.

Get representation, take notes, keep your cool - if it's not your fault don't make it easy for them.

What is it that you are alleged to have done, and why is it that you feel you haven't done it?

Short version, big meeting in Dover last week. I was asked to set up and arrange for 5 screens to be set up in the confrence areas, The day before the meeting i was told of another meeting on the follwing day and asked ot supply a laptop for the Directors use. Enginners to set up at 8am which required another two screens.

Director told engineers to meet him at 10:30 insted. Engineers arrived and could not set up untill 12:15 20mins b4 meeting due to start (it take longer then that to set up the equipment). They found no power outlets near by and the part they had purchased to link two LCD's to the laptop was missing a adapter.

So they had no time to get the system set up and working as it should have been so set up the laptop on only one screen and to top it off the PowerPoint Would not run
(i might add i had never seen or touched this powerpoint)

All equipment has been returned and proven to be working including strangly the power Point.

Ok not as short as i wanted to make it...

That is in no way a sackable offence! they probably want to just give you a verbal clip round the ear.

Now you have another day before the meeting it may be advisable to ask a trusted/responsible colleague to join you in the meeting if you do feel it is bad.

I did this for a colleague in my last job, they can make notes and ask questions but not answer any for you, handy and perfectly legal if you dont have a union/union rep to help you.
