View attachment 152061 We were quoted £20,000 for a single garage (plus around another £2000 for the door) 3 years ago!
I had a bright idea and we got the "Wendy House" instead, cheaper and more fun

That was not an average garage then, my most recent is a large double with a large insulated door, cavity walls, insulated, lots of lights and sockets. It would cost about £15,000 to have it built today.

It was a single but a wee bit longer than usual, so we could put some extra stuff in other than the car, (dryer, etc).
We were shocked at the quote, got others and they were a bit cheaper but for less work.
We had some garden that was never used but now it is with a wee house and some extra storage, so happy enough.

Well, write it down boy ......
Near me there was a house with a different type of garage. Imagine a driveway, push a button and part of the driveway lifts up on stilts. You then drive underneath the lifted part, get out, press a button and your car is safely stored underground. I've often wondered what happens if you press the button before getting out, presumably you are then stored underground with your car. His car was some fancy Aston Martin by the way. The sealing around it to stop it filling with water must be incredible. Mind you, it disappeared when the house was remodelled so perhaps it was indeed a problem.

Isn't the problem that we are all just too acquisitive? Multiple bikes, Aston Martins we don't need, only there to show to the neighbours and we call this an advanced society.

And what are people buying on Black Friday? Something else to put in the garage.

Tarquin across the road would think I'm down to a six figure salary.

I certainly don't have an aston martin tucked away. As for multiple bikes, well we have multiple people who need one each. I don't encourage the neighbours to nosey into my garage either!
I'll be too busy working Black Friday to buy anything more than a pot noodle for my lunch.
