When we renovated the cottage and built the extension, a double garage got built. The cars and m/bike live in there along with miscellaneous bits and pieces on shelves.
It's still enough of a novelty that I enjoy not having to scrape my windscreen on a winter's morning.

If any of you who do not use a garage had one that was plenty big enough and empty enough would you put your car in it.
Yes we currently have 5 cars, 3 of them can live outside, but 2 of them that have to live outside given the chance I would have in a garage. The first is a kit car that doesn't have a roof or doors (see avatar) that luckily is small enough to go under a folding canopy garage designed for a trike. The other is a 1989 MR2 MK1 which once I have sorted the broken driveshaft I will be paying for it to be in storage it's been dry stored the last 10 years.
you could leave your car running any where in this part of the world and no one would nick it :okay:, Sounds like a different world down south.
I was going to type that and thought "bugger that someone will prove me wrong..." but you are right

I think most people assume that cars are magically resistant to the elements, and (modern) cars are so clever that they can't be stolen.

Everyone suffers from some sort of hoarding syndrome. It's not that we need to keep crap in the garage, but it's very easy to fall into the trap of "that can go in there" and then "that's in there already, so some more can go in" and then "that's where that crap goes" until you end up a dedicated home (the garage) for all the stuff that won't fit in the loft but is too good to throw out.

And on that note, you know that you'll desperately need the thing that you threw out a week ago but has never been used the 10 years prior.
Our garage is mostly full of bikes, some may say that's a form of hoarding, I'd disagree :-)
We don't have a loft and I'm pretty good at throwing out stuff - the only things in our garage that aren't used are a dolls house and a rocking horse.

Definitely yes. Our car only goes out at weekends and the odd evening. It could happily live in the garage if it was big enough.

I don't have a garage but would't keep my car in it as it's simply far too useful a space -storage, bikes (powered or not), tools, diving kit x 2, caving kit x2, firewood, chemicals, workshop. And if I had a garage Id get another lathe, a bridgeport, bench for grinder and drill. Hey I don't think I'd even clear my front room out.

I have some on that list, I can add a couple of canoes, surf board, fishing tackle, building tools, BBQ, and storage cupboards for 7 years of office work, motorbike gear, bench saw, mitre saw, router bench and a bit more. Still keep the car in the garage though.^_^

We were quoted £20,000 for a single garage (plus around another £2000 for the door) 3 years ago!
I had a bright idea and we got the "Wendy House" instead, cheaper and more fun

Not in a Garage sense but still bike related.
I saw a Van Nicholas chained up in a place called Bonnyrigg, and they had only taken the seat, seat post and front wheel .
That might not seem odd,but it was chained up with what looked like the flimsiest padlock and chain ever.
Having owned a Van Nick, there is no way I would leave it in a what was a side street.
