Maggers is quality goods, after all ;)

I think that BM's got a point about the Youtube's attitude. It's not that the video is illegal, wrong or f***ed up, its just that they've received a complaint and the line of least resistance is to tell you to remove it. Their business model simply doesn't see any benefit in behaving otherwise.

It DOES annoy me that their moderation is so limited and doesn't seem to apply at all to the behaviour of members in the comments section. For example this one from TheRotHound….

Nice. No need for youtube to moderate that, or perhaps close TheRotHound's account.

Youtube is a cesspit website with a lot of turds bobbing up and down on the surface. If there's a new and concerted effort to introduce some degree of control over what's posted beyond their usual concerns about infringement of Sony's copyright, then they should do it across the board.

So, Start complaining. Kaipaith should get his own appearance removed, offensive comments should be removed, videos of illegal or antisocial driving should be removed. Let's have some consistency.

I see today that this video has also been targetted under "privacy":

Its pretty shocking and you feel that they let themselves end up in that situation.

If you read the comments at http://www.youtube.com/user/TheRotHound this plebs channel you can see he's obviously upset people and done it deliberatley. Looks like a concerted effort to me:wacko:

I have heard that a few peeps are heading over to Vimeo for a few vids as they arent as quick to cowtow to "privacy" pressure like this. Trouble is Youtube is the leader and will get you the most views.

Petty but the "ball" belongs to youtube so if they dont want to play their gaff their rules ! it s probably to reduce their admin why should they investigate it it ll cost em money you dont pay for them to host it ! just e mail your friends the clip and let lots of people upload it or put a small clip on and add see full video @ ..... and use a photobucket account

Why don't we all just post Magger's video on our own accounts? He could do a privacy compliant version with pointers to 'our' video. A couple of dozen videos with the title 'Abusive First Employee' should make it harder for the complainant to track down.

The downside is that to do that is to give in to common sense and concede that you've done something wrong. Which he hasnt.

Had the guy on the pavement just kept his mouth shut and not put his blimmin great foot in it he wouldnt be in that situation. It'd be like me going into a corner shop and holding the place up, getting caught on CCTV and claming entrapment due to all the quality goods and the till on full display:laugh:

Depends how you phrase the explanation?

I agree with what you are saying - this is one reason for not removing the video

They didn't mention your weird skin did they?

Seriously people, Youtube don't host your videos out of the goodness of their heart. Giving you 48hrs to edit is pretty generous I'd have thought.

Anyways, I've got a little camera for Christmas and as soon as I'm sober enough to read the instructions, it'll be going on the bars. I've got an airzound too, but I can't work out how to put it on the bars (the only option that works is the option that will fill it with rain).

Once I'm all kitted up, I'll be commuting through Wilmslow and we'll have footballer and WAG-cam!! Watch Patrice Evra's face as I unleash the full 115dB on him as he sits texting at the lights. Oh yes! Justice will be mine. Or a few hundred Youtube hits anyways....

btw, that pass Magnatom, it was dickish and pointless, but not dangerous and certainly not something I'd be bothered with. Each to their own.

It was certainly too close, as you'll realise once you've filmed a little yourself. Then again, Maggers was also in the door zone, and would probably have discouraged it if he'd been further out.

I absolutely agree that Maggers found it too close! If you don't like same lane passes, then don't allow it! I generally accept it as a hazard of using a major route. It's certainly not the biggest place where I have to assess the percentage game.

The point is, don't allow it then complain when some loser takes advantage of it.

I generally don't mind it (though the slush spray from cars moving out of normal tyre tracks is awful at the mo).

If I do mind it - then primary it is. I'll quite happily take the ensuing flack.

I'm sure if he wanted it would be more than easy to set up a few ghost channels from libraries etc, LOL. Obviously we would have nothing officially to do with that would we.

I would also add I dont know personally having watched it a few times if the employee (is he actually a First employee?) is being serious. He could just be one of these daft tossers we all know in big workplaces and now possibly feels like a right plum. If he's seen the video, or this, recently some consilitory effort on his part?

Sorry to play devil's avocado here, and my understanding of the law is of course limited - but - I believe while you are fully within your rights to film someone in a public place, I think there are different laws in place regarding their broadcast.

Hence when you see TV shows and there is filming on the street, sometimes you get people's faces being blurred out - I think the broadcaster requires a consent form to be signed for the material to be broadcast.

Worth investigating I guess.

I think there is something in that. When I had that trouble with my neighbour the legal thing about my cameras came up even though they were already installed before that comedian moved in.

If you read back and remember Magger's previous postings, he has checked out the legality of filming on the public highway and showing the vids on youtube. I think he's got something about it on his blog as well. The circumstances and legality are different if you're filming or being filmed on private property.

Ultimately the issue is with Youtube.

First off, lets get the pass out of the way (pardon the tenuous pun). It wasn't the worst, but it was unnecessary (we all knew the lights were about to change). So I made a relatively friendly comment to the driver, just to remind him of his duty of care. He was relatively friendly as well. It wouldn't have made it anywhere near youtube.

Twat in an SPT Hi-Vis, pipes in, completely off his own back. Obviously doesn't realise that he is being filmed. It becomes worth posting on youtube.

The privacy thing, well, in my eyes (and I'd be interested in Flying Monkey's and Kirstie's views on this) is verging on censorship. Now I can certainly understand that there has to be limits, and that in the end youtube/google are providing a service and can decide to do what they like with it, but, if they can't operate within and up to the laws of each country (technically not difficult considering their expertise) then, what is the point?

If anyone has any suggestions for video hosting then I am open to ideas.
