I am aware that I come accross as a bit of an old git on here but really I am not like that in real life. I think I bite my lip in real life but on line I let it all out.
<<<< My Avatar is nothing like me but it is how I think you lot probably see me.

Someone on here thought I was at least 20 years older than I actually am! I think I probably come across as quite serious. I'm always afraid my sense of humour won't come across well in a post. It's difficult without the intonation and facial expression, isn't it?

In terms of this forum, I get the impression that a lot of people who chat here are probably the same in real life; i.e., their persona here is what you'd probably expect to find if you met them in the street. I imagine it would be hard to keep up a "different" persona all the time.

I would expect though, that people might be more "open" in person. Say things to you face-to-face that they might not say here (for fear of upsetting people or coming across in the "wrong" way). So I suppose that might add a different dimension to people - give them more depth than they have on the forums. The rules of a forum dictate a certain level of acceptability anyway, so you're not going to get everything from some online.

I don't know I think people may be more open online because they don't have to meet the other people they are talking too. Equally they can inflate their personality to become something they are not (or maybe I'm judging these people incorrectly and that is what they are like in person  ).

(re-reading this ... none of those comments were aimed at you Arch... I think you come across as friendly, independent, resourceful, chatty, and just occasionally spitting cat when you need to defend your kitten  ). (Should I say that... will you take offence... I worry about my words being interpretted the wrong way without the expression of voice and face to go with it).

I try to have a dry sense of humour and sometimes it works and other times though I appear lugubrious.
Got to work on this...............
