Problem with my start up menu

Until a few days ago when going to the arrow on the start menu in Vista that's used to select log off/ shut down etc. I had the option to switch user.

This now seems to have vanished, it's also gone from the log on page as well, so if some one just closes the laptop without logging off it locks it with their profile and there's no option to switch user from the log on page as there used to be.

Anyone got any ideas for me please?
