Professor Heinz Wolff has died.

He was a big influence on me as a teenager, making Engineering fun and accessable. It was a huge honour that he was my judge at The Young Engineer For Britain in 1984. He showed great enthusiasm for my and everyone else's projects and talked to the 17 year old me as an Engineer and an equal. I also have a friend who was lectured by him at Brunel and he has a deep fondness for the Prof.

A life in Science and Engineering well lived.

Wasn't he one of the professors who took part in the televised Royal Institution Christmas Lectures?

Enjoyed watching those as a child.

Looks like they are now on BBC Four.

Bloody child refugee, escaping war and coming to Britain. Send them back!

On a more serious note, RIP Heinz, i was only young when the Egg Race was on but he was my idea of a proper mad professor.

Aw, that's a shame. I enjoyed his stuff on tv when I was young, he had a great delivery and I particularly liked his accent.

Didn't he also appear on Top of the Form?
Ooh, that's got me going. I don't think he did, although Tim Gudgin, whose voice will always be associated with it for me, died last month.

I'm probably getting confused with the Young Scientist of the Year, I can't find anything with Wolff on TotF.
You think you have a clear memory and then...
