The latter, if they wanted to kill for fun they'd go shoot something edible or go fox-hunting and hope the hounds go for a fox than the trail left by the runner. This has nothing to do with blood sports!

I think they have been talking about mass vaccination of badgers in this country too, it would be good if they could make it work.

A hell of a lot seem to want to go fox hunting as well. Hence my original point. If there a two discrete groups then I stand corrected.

It's not the first choice, but sometimes it is necessary (along with movement restrictions, widespread disease monitoring etc) to control large outbreaks of notifiable diseases, for example foot and mouth.

As I recall barrier farming was introduced after a cull failed? If my memory is incorrect than I hold my hands up.

Maybe you could email DEFRA with some of your ideas incase they haven't thought of them?

Some 20+ years ago i remember bumping into a friend who had his leg all done up in bandages and was hobbling around when i asked what happened he explained he had been out lamping and had mistakenly shot at a badger and missed. Anyway it came hoofing it up the hill and bit him right through his boot to the bone now thats payback.

I know what you mean about the gun thing though i grew up in the sticks back then everyone had guns in fact there were probably more guns than the army had. You can imagine what a 14yo is like with a automatic .22 air rifle they want to shoot everything in sight. And when you were older enough you got a 4/10 or 12 bore like dad!!

I have shot a .22 at tin cans and a bolt action rifle on an army range in Berlin. TBH neither gave me any real pleasure. A handgun might be different but I never had that opportunity.

Yer we used to go shooting as cadets .303, 7.62mm etc it was always funny being down in the butts, we used to have to fill in the holes where people had hit the targets with paste and paper. Until the re barrelled bren gun opened up on it then there was just one big hole unless the guy that was shooting was a poor shot at which point everyone just hid.lol
