Just come back from a 27 mile ride - Leeds to Saltaire along the Leeds to Liverpool Canal. Very proud of my 10 and 11 year olds who did it without too much complaining. It may be pretty flat but there's some rather rough terrain in places and they got on with it well.

They even coped OK with the cretinous kids in their late teens who thought it was amusing to throw apples quite hard from a bridge and hit my boy leaving quite a nasty bruise. Cowards wouldn't come down and face me though and sadly, in my cycling shoes there's no way I could have got up there to them. I haven't got the faintest idea what makes some people tick.

Well done your young uns!

As for what makes people tick, if we could work that out, we'd work out a cure. I favour sacks, bricks and canals myself. But the important thing not to let it spoil an overall great trip. Plus, your boy stands a good chance of remembering what it felt like, and not being a cretin in turn one day (I'm sure he wouldn't, but hormones and peer pressure are powerful things)

I assume you mean as a punishment and not a boredom-buster?

Well done to your boys, dongo :bravo:

Congratulation to your boys and a bloody shame about the apple throwing kids. Report it to the Police as it is assault.

Thanks all, the kids did good - especially as their bikes probably weigh more than mine

, I'd certainly hate to be trying to do it with the same power to weight ratio

I nearly put my bcak out last week lifting #3's old bike onto the wall rack, how the hell his little 7yr old legs got it up some hills amazes me!

But they have the energy of youth.

Last week, I watched my 4 year old nephew divert from the path to school, and run a complete lap of a school football pitch, and back up a really steep grassy slope, and then just carry on as if he'd only walked beside us. I'd have been a collapsed wreck!

27 miles is an impressive effort for you and your kids. Winter is on its way and it allways amazes me that it seems to be considered ok for kids to throw snowballs at anybody or anything they want. Best to just keep your head down as say a word of protest of course just serves to make you the priority target for the little devils.
