Picked this up from other cycle forum. Could not confirm in time if he was going to be on or not but thought I would let others know that might be interested.

Does anyone know if he was on radio 4 or not?

R4 PM about 3 mins ago.
Started off with general rant about cyclists with phones/ipods , maybe a not unreasonable point, lead into feigned concern for cyclist safety, especially beginners ( who must therefore increase 'accident rate') then degenerated into it's their own fault for being in front of my cab etc + irrelevancies about competition with taxis.
Campaign against seems to be one woman show. CTC probably too busy worrying about reduced charitable donations from multimillionaires.

Seriously tho, its no wonder cyclists have such a bad name when bosses of a large company such as Addison Lee come out and spew this kind of crap not only to cyclists but also how to completely disregard road laws such as bus lanes etc

The stuff about iPods was just a retreat into general clichéed prejudice against cyclists and did nothing to do to address the insulting and inflammatory comments he made earlier about cyclists. This just widens out his attempt to tar even more cyclists as inexperienced, non-tax paying, deaf, wobbling grannies who are responsible for being invisible when drivers knock them off or bully them.

The lack of reports about his drivers taking Addison Leeberties in the bus lanes is illuminating. They clearly already know what a lying untrustworthy weasel he is.

this idea of training is flawed why?
to be a driver (full license) you need to pass a test ONCE and once only nothing is done to chase this up with further training until you are caught and get points or revoked licensed. Same with PCOs and black cabs.

Now my next question for this ignorant individual is who is going to monitor the taxation and funding of the cycling department, that meaning tax, training and whatever he wants

tbh I see it less than likely for him to get this privileged because this will certainly start a precedent for other taxi firms in London

There is NO EVIDENCE that inexperienced cyclists form a large part of the statistics, an experienced courier was killed this year, other tragedies included cyclists who'd covered long distances and were used to cycling in London. Griffin is wrong. What he's saying is dangerous because it's very close to saying cyclists are always at fault. For their own deaths.

Well I hope he has cycle insurance, has done cycle training and does not wobble like a granny the first time he is out on the Boris bike..........
