Pub near us is part of a large group and from time-to-time we get emails with offers.
This week the offer was...........................
8 oz rump steak, chips/jacket, mushrooms, tomato, peas and cooked onion...........all for £5.00.
It really was very good, steak was nice. Neither of us could finish everything.
Offer is on Monday/Tuesday from 12:00-17:00 (doesn't say how long the offer is on for) so obviously to draw people in on quiet days but that suits us as we are retired.
Any good deals in your local?

Just come in from a ride to the fishing lakes cafe. Big plate of beans on toast and a mug of tea :- £2.20

2 meals for £11 available at our (single) pub Monday to Saturday.
Sundays they do a carvery roast at £6-50 a head, two courses ( starter or a pud).
Hardly worth turning on the oven some days.
All time best ever mixed grill over there is £11 and your money is on the plate.

There's a pub/restaurant in Belfast city centre that does 2 courses for £10 and kids eat free (2 kids per 1 paying adult) on a weekend which I often avail of!

having done some large scale catering for local events over the last few years, the input cost of ingredients is actually surprisingly low - 3 course remembrance day lunch plus cheese and coffee for £10 produces £5pp profit as we have zero other costs. I should say I'm a foodie and only buy quality ingredients I would be happy to eat at home.

The steaks at the pub down the track here in deepest Hereford range from £19.75 to £21.50. I think it may be some kind of gastro-pub.

Close..........quite close...........but not sure I would compare a plate of beans to an 8 oz steak with all the trimmings

Its probably just a large chain sticking it to small independent businesses. Its not even that the large chain is able to buy in bulk, but more that they are happy to run loss making menus with the overall aim of crushing the opposition....once the small independents are gone from the high street all we will be left with is faceless corporate pubs and restaurants. Harvester anyone?

Mr R moans when he sees the price I pay for steaks. But I remind him I do like quality in meat - but he's the one exception....

And he prefers quantity?
