I'm going to be staying in Whitsand Bay next week and intend to ride to Dartmoor. Anyone got any decent pubs they can recommend on Dartmoor and any other nice places to ride around or near Whitsand Bay?

There's a very nice pub at Hexworthy, I think it's called The Forester's Arms, it's right on a tight hairpin bend! They're very friendly and didn't mind a load of muddy mountain bikers when we stopped on a YOGi ride.

Whitsands is one of my favourite stretches of road followed by the estuary route back from Polbathic to Anthony. 'The Cliff Top Cafe' is very good near Freathy, it's tucked away below the road - look out for the sign and tell them the YOGi's say hi. There's also 'The View' restaurant near Freathy, a bit more upmarket but good for posh food.

Some routes below, plus there's loads more under my alter ego of 'Tangoman' on www.bikely.com just exclude the Plymouth bits!

You could always try a YOGi ride if you like - see website for details.

I'd quite happily live at Whitsands but then we only live across The Sound - enjoy your stay.

The Warren House Inn is wonderfully isolated. I seem to recall it had a generator for power (surely that can't still be the case), had a fire lit everyday of the year, and did a fantastic ploughmans.

Wherever you end up make sure you get your hands on a pint (or 2 or 3 or ...) of Jail ale.

Cheers!
