Strewth, seems so long ago but was only just before I was born. A terrible incident.

Never forget

Sleep peacefully.

First time I saw my Mother cry

it was on the radio and she left the room crying
I asked my Dad what was wrong and he explained that some children had died and Mum was upset

still remember that after all these years

There is a plaque on the Anglesey side of the Menai Straits Bridge - no indication or anything, but it is there
always brought a tear to my eye when I came across it when I lived there - and if I was walking past I made a point of visiting it

I was pre-school but on that day I remember my older brother who was in infants school running into the house crying “a mountain has fallen on a school and killed all the children”.
I didn’t fully comprehend, but I understood enough to know something terrible had happened that was very frightening.

The government of the day appropriated 150k of the victims memorial fund to pay for the cleanup, essentially forcing the victims to pay to clean up the NCBs mess. How nice of them.

The government did, with some embarrassment, repay it in 1997 but didnt account for interest or inflation.

No one in authority acquitted themselves honourably in the wake of that horrible incident.
