Whilst pootling through a fairly rough area of downtown sunny Swindon earlier, I witnessed a right plonker on an MTB pull straight across a main road without looking - barely missing a subsequently very angry Rover driver...

Further down the road the Rover driver got out & started a punch up with the numpty on the MTB... needless to say I scooted past at flank speed...

Jeez it's utter pillocks like that that give cyclists a bad rep... what a plonker... & you'd think there's more than enough mindless violence around already...:sad::sad:

Did you have a phone?

Why did you not call the police, that's what they're there for.

I'm not on about decking the car driver or the MTB rider for that matter.

''What you doing?'' and ''Is it really worth?'' in a calm but firm voice is all that you need ime. That experience being diffusing a situation where a chav with a steering lock who wanted to wipe out the driver of a car who had cut him up in a supermarket car park.

Yeah, defuse the situation!

You could do with some tutelage Gaz after watching some of your vids. Not the best manner to take imo..

I don't post everything that happens to me on the road, only the worst. The worst doesn't show the best of people. It's much easier to calm a situation down if you are an outside party.

Well this was really none of my business - and both these geezers looked right bloody 'wrong-uns'... besides I was on the way to collect the wife's car from the Garage (I bung the bike in the back) & really couldn't be arsed with the sheer 'numptyness' of it all... also I'm sure the local plod's have enough to contend with...

I couldn't care less if the MTB rider was wrong to pull out into a main road like that, the driver should be prosecuted for assault if he got out of his car to give the MTB rider a kicking.

Is this not the business of society in general though? I see your point but not doing anything even if it was to say 'leave it out' is shirking one's public duty - imho of course.
[/quote]

Agree in principle with you Lee, but the events in Birmingham prove that performing public duty can lead terrible results.

If the OP didn't feel safe getting involved, so be it.

Downtown Pinehurst BSRU - where else...? :hello:

I'm a Lecturer teaching 16-18 year old teenagers - so sorting 'issues' out is my profession I guess - and well used to it after 25 years in the game... but from the language they were using I reckoned they were WELL past ANY reasoning - I know more than enough about human nature to know when I'm on a losing wicket... otherwise I do my best to be a model citizen... sometimes you just know (despite your best intentions) you'll just 'fan the flames' to intervene...

+1 and it's one of the reasons (turning the other cheek) why we are in such a mess in this country.
