I had my first puncture in over 8 years (more than likely 10+!) last week.

Slimed the tyre to keep going until I got a new tube.

It happened on way to work, the middle of the side of the tube has a hole in it.

Does this look like a snakebite?, I was expecting to find something through the tyre but the tyre it's is fine.

I don't go jumping off kerbs etc so just seems really odd.

Inspected wheel rim, tyre etc and haven't found anything out of the ordinary.

Just had another look at sidewall and there is no puncture wound.

It would be right where the nipple is (injection moulding flash?).

No snake bite, how long has that tube been in the tyre? It looks like its been rubbing on something in the tyre.

I believe it's the original tube so probably nigh on 5 or 6 years now.

Inside of tyre was smooth all way round including sidewalls and I didn't seen any debris falling out.

Will take tyre off again at weekend and have a good look at the sidewall again.

It looks like somethings just got through, thorn or something similar, it sounds like you've had your monies worth out of the tube, I've not had one last that long.

I'll just have to chalk it up to one of those things, it was the location of it that I found odd (directly in the side of the tube), I'm always on roads on my commute.

Anyway, treated my commuter to a wash and a frame bag with puncture kit, double ended innertube, a mini pump and multi toolkit so I don't get stranded again.

Wouldn't fancy taking back wheel out on the side of the road!.

Sunday 31st

First one in over 2 years this afternoon, riding home from work
Thankfully, l was about 1/2 mile from home

(I fitted the Marathon DDs in April 2020)

I had bought a new one to go on the rear, as it’s slipping in NewLands Woods, when it’s greasy (like today)

I had meant to put the new one on when l built the new frame up, but this deflation gives me an incentive
It’s a reasonable chunk of glass

This is about my limit for mud/traction
It is, however, better than a greasy surface
