'Rebuild' Onto A New Frame

Due to the imminent demise/failure of my CGR 'work-bike' I wanted another frame that would (at the very least) take '28' section tyres & mudguards
So, after a few readers offered suggestions, I had a trip to Harrogate yesterday, with my daughter

After careful consideration, between 2 frames, & influenced by the £110 difference between the pair........... I am a Yorkshireman..........

I bought a Spa Cycles ‘Aubisque’ frame/forks
I also purchased;
- a head-set (they faced the head-tube/pressed it in for me, as I went off to the local Co-Op, for a sandwich)
- new mudguards, as the present pair are split, & held together with cable-ties (& onto the stay-mounts too!)
- disc-brake adapters to allow for the difference in mounts

Everything else was transferred from the CGR, barring;
1. bottom-bracket (old one was seized into the CGR, bought another this morning, from 'Evans at Xscape')
2. front derailleur (‘borrowed’, from my 1994 Dyna-Tech 755Ti, that’s hung up in the garage, as the seat-tube is the same diameter as the Spa)
3. the STI ‘stops’/converters (also from the Dyna-Tech)

All that’s left to do now, is;
1. cut down the new mudguard-stays to an appropriate length
2. transfer all of my lights onto it
3. test-ride

The Elan 725, looked very nice indeed, in the metallic bronze, but it was £485

The Abisque was £375

Very smart and a good practical do it all bike..... but I'd have splashed the £110 extra for metallic copper, and I'm also a Yorkshireman.

I'd have also given it some new and not white bar tape.:okay:

Puzzle game procrastinator!
I like that bike too!

Are you going to trim and cap the mudguard stays now? :whistle:

Yes, after a 'trial-ride' (including some woodland)

Toasting it
I drank it, didn’t smash it

It feels fine, an immediately comfortable riding position. despite just guessing what height to put the saddle, based on how far it came against my hips (about 1/4" adjusttment needed)

The Dremel & discs were used for an easier cut of the stays
