I don't get that many punctures but I got one tonight, first one in two months, I am interested in how you avoid or deal with them when they do happen.

Mine tonight was a thorn, changed it in ten minutes putting one of the two brand new tubes I carry in, I have a mini pump that takes cartridges or you can do it by hand, its from Decathlon and I can never get much pressure in, I decided not to worry as was only two miles from home so a squishy tyre wasn't the end of the world.

I want to either avoid them altogether or get a better pump, so after recommendations for a replacement or some magical anti puncture system !

You can't avoid them altogether. Use a puncture-resistant tyre, if you don't already. And get a better pump.

Puncture resistant tyres are helpful - I've used that gunky stuff you squeeze into the inner tubes and that seemed to help too (not had a puncture in aaaages and got that stuff in now).

I run race tyres and carry a lightweight tiny pump. Perhaps I am a lucky bugger, but the fairy comes very very infrequently and I just regard it as one of these things. I have only had to do a road side repair once in the last year. I have had a few at home - slow one that I find in the morning as I am getting the bike ready for the commute.

I used to carry a tube of that foam stuff that you squirted into a punctured tyre and it would fill the hole and blow the tyre up. £1.99 from Decathlon. It was pretty good and would at least get you home.

However, 2 years ago I invested in some puncture resistant tyres and a set of slime filled inner tubes - belt and braces you know!

Cost £65 supplied and fitted from my local bike shop. I haven't looked back since! I was getting punctures one/twice a month on average before - used to drive me nuts  - I cycle down Broad Street in Birmingham (no way to avoid it) and it is FULL of broken glass - possibly the reason I got so many.

I can't recommend the tyres enough - some people complain that tyres like that "add weight" and stuff to your bike but I haven't noticed any difference - anyway if they did it only means a better work out doesn't it!!!??
