Riding home tonight on a dark downhill section some delightful driver decided to overtake at speed as close as possible (I'd guess less than 6" away) then immediately cut in front and slam on the brakes, before speeding up and roaring away.

I slammed the anchors on and managed to stop... Appreciated the hydraulic disks.

Annoyingly I didn't manage to get a registration no. Too busy picking my teeth out-of the handle bars.

Just hope that next time this idiot tries something like this again he doesn't succeed in killing anyone.

The days you forget to strap the armour-piercing rocket launcher on your head tube, eh?

Hope your heart rate is back below 200 by now.

Not even reported it to plod. Doubt they could do much, as all I could say was it was a small dark coloured hatchback driven by a tw@t.
If you can ever get proof it is worth pursuing. I appreciate the following is very different in many ways, but the following "brake test" got the lad a 12 month ban plus 80hours community service. (I'm not quite sure why they didn't put him in a mental institution brake testing a 44t artic) but it does show the courts can take this sort of dangerous driving very seriously.
Why exactly would anyone do that? I mean, what on earth was going through the driver's mind?

To the OP: sounds nasty, I hope you are OK.

It's common. Had someone close pass, and he didn't like the fact he'd been held up, so cut right in and proceeded to drive through the rubble on the edge of the road to fling it up at me.

I think when the car cuts in the truck driver flashes him in admonishment.
Twat in car thought the appropriate response to having his sub-standard driving highlighted was to spook the truck driver by braking, which on the face of it is an unbelievably stupid thing to do which could have resulted in the car driver getting seriously mashed. Supreme twattishness.
