Purchases you later regretted making

Ever bought anything (cycling or otherwise) that you came to wish you hadn't?

I bought some Sealskinz waterproof socks a few months back thinking for the price (£20) they would keep my feet dry in autumn/winter. The first time I used them, they did, but the rain wasn't really heavy. Lovely warm toes though. Second time I used them it was properly raining - ok, I was still wearing shorts, so no lower leg protection - and my feet were soaked. I didn't realise the rain would run down inside the sock.

All told, wish I'd invested in a few more spare pairs of thin cycling socks instead.

Not neccessarily thin socks -> I find the defeet wool-e-ators fantastic in Winter. The Woolie Boolie is a bit too thick.. the wool-e-ators are merino so even if you get wet they keep feet warm. I use Adidas climaproof windproof overshoes.. I find Neoprene doesn't seem to keep my feet that warm while windproof overshoes do. I never understood waterproof socks for the reason that water will run down tights into overshoes / shoes /socks anyway.. (I suppose if the tights are looped around the outside of your shoes there's less chance of water going in to socks.)

We should just take it as read that everyone who's ever bought a Minoura Space Bar regretted it. The things are useless, and yes, I know that you're not supposed to steer with them.
Bollo, I've always found Busch and Mueller stuff excellent, including the Toplight. Maybe you got a Friday afternoon model.;)

Yeah, I was genuinely surprised given their reputation, to the point where I wonder whether I was sold a fake. Stuck to cateyes since, even though I've had the odd one Barnes Wallis down the road.

No, mine has been excellent and solid enough to use as a 'tribar' on long audax rides. I combines two spacers with one cross bar and it's been as solid as a rock for years and years, despite being removed and refitted dozens of times.

Goodness.... so many....

At least two pairs of beautiful but hugely painful shoes; a remote control boat that was hideously expensive that the other half broke within days of receiving it for his birthday; a laptop that broke almost immediately....

Can't think of anything cycle related to be honest, I too bought Sealskinz waterproof socks but have found they keep my feet really warm even in really heavy downpours and are great for when my shoes haven't quite dried out but I need to use them anyway. I think it's because I don't really think ahead so have bought practical things as I go along like weather-appropriate clothing and panniers etc. Gosh how boring of me!

My Minoura space bar has been fine. Really useful freeing up space on the bars.
