"Pushing the Envelope"

What does this saying mean? I kind of get it... but on 2nd thoughts... i don't.

I have been retired from work for nearly a year now, and not once since has anybody spoken to me in that bullsh*t nonsense sort of way.

And, I am so pleased about that.

They are just made up words and phrases to make people sound more intelligent and interesting than they really are.

Before computers, people used to push envelopes around on their desks, dreaming some vague dream about a medium for 'talking' to other people about cycling. And three word games.

We once went to a meeting at the Trust and spent the entire time inserting made up management speak....

Trouble was keeping a straight face

Pushing the envelope's all well and good but you have to have a level playing field. If not, you won't all be singing from the same hymn sheet and the team players won't be able to leverage a paradigm shift.
