Hi,

first post, and seeking friendly advice,
I have a mtb, it's a Giant Rock Alux 6000 series. I ws given it by my granddad who did not use it much and had bought it second hand. as you can see it's in good condition save for rusted parts. i ride it often, it's functionally fine without any problems.

I only cycle on city roads but only a handful of miles at a time not dozens, and want to change to a road bike. It has rusty parts as can also be seen in the pics. should i sell as it is? should i replace the rusted parts and then sell? how much would it be worth in either condition? Could I have prevented the rusting easily? I don't know if it was rusted when my granddad gave it to me or if I did it, i did not pay close attention to it until now.
how much would ridding it of rust cost

since i got it, I always was conscious to keep it out of the rain when possible, but it's not always possible, eg when riding in the rain or chaining it to some post running errands etc when it rains.
It has anti wheel theft axles, the kind which only a special key can unlock.

tldr
i want to switch to a road bike as i don't bike on trails and only in the city a)how much is this bike worth for sale as it is with rusty parts b)how much would repairing it cost and c)how much would it then sell for? d)how can i prevent rust in future
