I have managed the commute twice this week, really enjoyed it and school trips for children permitting will hopefully do it 3/4 times a week from now on. There is a shower at work albeit somewhat puny, I don't think I could do the trip otherwise. My main problem apart from very creased skirts (will probably leave couple of standard black/grey ones in office to avoid this problem) is the very red complexion I end up with (understatement). I am not someone who wears much make up so whaever I do wear wouldn't camoflauge this  colour. Does any one have any tips or ideas please.

...a bag on your head?

My coat's already on and the door's open (and I'm not a woman - sorry!) ;);)

I try to take the last mile of my ride a bit easier and arrive slightly less red faced. Could you have a slightly cooler shower?

My colleagues are used to me "glowing" on arrival now, so unless I have an early meeting I don't really worry too much any more.

How kind you all are but have you ever seen a beetroot working it's not a pretty site particularly given that age comes before beauty in my case!

+1

Try setting off 5 mins earlier and taking it easy on the ride. I have a fan at my desk which cools me down nicely.

Not a woman, but...

A commute is not a time trial. This took me a while to really understand, but its true... you don't have to push yourself hard all the way. You can, if you want, but you don't have to.

Take your time. You'll still feel the benefit, and you'll still get faster and better. And you probably don't look as flustered as you think, in fact you probably look better for it.

I have to live with whatever face I arrive with! I am allergic to make-up.

Who cares? I arrive dishevelled and red faced most days. I don't bother ironing either .
I sometimes splash cold water on my face, but it isn't all that effective for the redness, but helpful for cooling my face down.

I go red very easily ... and when I really over do it (running which I hate does it for me), it takes an hour or more to loose the redness. In the morning I try to take it easy on the way to work. Its in the afternoon when sometimes I cut it a little fine (=late) for getting to school to pick the kids up when I can really go red.

I also find that I have to think hard about what I am wearing especially in winter. Leaving the house with only a base layer and a waterproof on seems really cold but I have to remember whether my route has a hill in it that will warm me up plenty.
