I have decided I drink far too much coffee. Not only do I have it at breaks, I also have a thermos mug of it on my desk at all times. I took the decision to cut coffe out and stopped drinking it altogether yesterday morning.

It is not as easy as I thought it would be.

I woke up this morning with a headache and felt pretty crap. I swapped the coffee for hot water with a spoon of sugar and a piece of ginger. Its nice but I think I have got coffee withdrawl symptoms.

I had half a cup of coffee at the break and feel a lot better now.

I think I will drastically reduce the coffee intake. But not cut it out altogether to start with.

Has anyone else tried this before?

I've supported SophRM through numerous abstentions and relapses. It is deviously hard to kick.

Good quality decaff and green tea are your friends.

Yes, I only drink coffee once in the morning; for the rest of the day I'm on tea then decaff tea after 6 pm (or beer obviously) so I'm slowly ridding my body of caffeine as the day goes on.

I do get mild cravings at about 10.00 but no other symptoms and I sleep OK.

I've cut tea out at home (after 40 years of drinking it)...and drink at the most 3 cups at work but generally two.I just got fed up with boiling the kettle all the time...Now I drink water or orange squash. Not really too many problems with doing this.

With the nature of my work it's easy to survive on two cups of tea.

Many a year ago I did the Atkins diet and had to give up tea and I had a headache for three days, it was awful. Drank mint tea for 12 months or so before getting back onto proper tea. Won't be going cold turkey again.

I am inclined to suffer headaches so have pretty much cut it out now. Wouldn't advise going cold turkey though or you will get withdrawals.

I have a cup of tea in the morning first thing, then I have started drinking Barleycup for the rest of the day. Tastes like a mild, creamy coffee and I find it quite pleasant. No caffeine, and gluten free also for those bothered with that.

How do you drink it?

I used to take milk and sugar, and was getting through 20+ cups a day. I then cut out the milk and sugar, learning to properly appreciate the taste of the coffee, and I'm now down to 5-7 cups (of proper coffee) a day on average.
That's still a lot!

Doesn't tea have a broadly similar amount of Caffeine as coffee? So you're actually only ridding your body of caffeine from 6 pm onwards?

I have around 4 big mugs of filter coffee through the day - I use a 'smart cafe' insulated press mug. I don't drink coffee at home so weekends and holidays are largely coffee free as my wife can't stand the smell. As long as I replace the coffee with tea I don't suffer from the removal of coffee.

I've had to quit because of a bout of gastritis. Coffee did not help me at all. I just quit. 3 or 4 days of headaches and feeling a bit shoot was it. I've currently just cut down from 3 cups in the morning to one and I'm still suffering a little bit. In fact I've just made myself a 2nd cup now. Phased withdrawal is just prolonging the agony, just get on with it.
