A giant of popular music has died aged 82.

His California sound of summer has influenced countless pop songs.

Very sad news. He was a real pioneer.

Fell under his spell in 1964 at the tender age of 10. Saw The Beach Boys (without Brian) in 1968.
Saw him play Pet Sounds live and thought my life was complete, then to see him perform Smile 38 years after he binned it was like a dream. On a visit to the US for our Ruby wedding I made a pilgrimage to Hawthorn California to his childhood home (now a freeway), stopped off at Fosters Freeze, a burger joint where Dennis Wilson met a girl in a white Thunderbird, after which Brian wrote Fun Fun Fun. The road sign has been my wallpaper since 2016
I can't believe he's gone.

Let us not forget that a huge volume of the work attributed to "the Beach Boys" was actually Brian Wilson and the Wrecking Crew, because he was such a perfectionist and only the creme de la creme of session players could do work he demanded.

Last of the Wilson brothers to go. A true genius.

If anyone hasn't heard them, I recomend two of the relatively unknown Beach Boys albums, Surfs Up and Holland. A big departure from the early "surf sound" but the best stuff they ever did.

Utterly fantastic.

What can I say about this flawed genius that hasn't already been said? R.i.P. feller.

Why is he flawed? Listening to his musical history I can see no flaws. Legend that I got into too late really.

All the good ones seem to die not long after I get into their music. Bowie, Prince, Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys of which he was one (I think they all require credit even though BW was kind of the main creative there).

The exception was the Rolling Stones. By rights they should have started croaking in the early 90s if the above had applied to them!!

However I do think that any band who influenced the Beatles has to be considered one of the greats!! Sgt Pepper was a response to Pet sounds apparently!! That piece of news I heard today was mind blown. If you influence what is considered one of the greatest and most influential bands then that makes you a great too.
