Person suspected of stealing/attempting to steal a bicycle runs from police and falls/jumps into water and drowns.

To all thieves, as much as I despise every bone in your body, I wish you no harm. Our bikes are our passion, and almost worthless second hand, and certainly not worth risking your bloody life for.....

I wish I could share your forgiveness, but if more harm came of them then they might think twice before stealing other peoples hard earned property. He gets very little sympathy from me. Not that I would suggest the death penalty is appropriate for stealing a bike; but if you take ridiculous risks to try and evade the law, then this can be the result.

How long before the Police are forbidden from pursuing suspects on H&S grounds because of rare incidents like this?

Well I laughed out loud about it, me. It always cheers me up no end to hear the demise of a worthless rat like this. Stories of this nature should be the last item on the evening news programmes where the amusing ones are kept.

The guy never set out for that end, its what happens, it can happen in a myriad of circumstances, in any event in life, in any moment, to anyone...thats just good luck, bad luck.
We're not all so fortunate in life, some make their decisions deliberately, some are victims of their upbringing etc etc etc.
He might have kids, a family, a guy driven by desperation...you just dont know?

But that some wish or laud his demise saddens me. He was a bike thief, not the devil incarnate. Jesus.....

Yes,he was a bike thief.But if he has stolen one bike then he must have stolen others.And i would wager he burgles as well.Stop standing up for these cretins.He died because he was a thief.He cared not one jot for the misery of those who lost there bikes or whatever else this scum got away with.

I've handled jobs where elderly people have died through the upset and shock of suffering a theft. There's no such thing as "just a" thief.

Reminds me of an incident a few years back when a crew broke into a house and stole a high powered Merc. The driver, with multiple convictions, wasn't being pursued but still managed to leave the road at high speed colliding with a tree. He burnt to death behind the wheel. Bit of a result that.

I remember an interview years ago between Wogan (I think) & a Saudi Prince, Wogan tried to pick a fight asking if it was barbaric to chop a burglar's hand off, the Prince quietly responded by asking who had the biggest issue with burglars UK or Saudi, Wogan didn't have a valid response.
