Awww, sad news.


Even though I'm a big Cleese fan*, I always thought hers was the best acting in the whole series. She kinda got the most boring lines, but always totally nailed the perfect tone, while everyone else chewed the scenery around her.


*that would get me shot in The Other Place ...

And she nailed the tone exactly - that she was a saint to put up with the petulant BF and keep the hotel running too. In an interview I've just seen, she said she didn't have a versatile face, but used her voice ability to the full.

Always liked her in a certain kind of way in Fawlty Towers, RIP.

I never liked Fawlty Towers so I'd prefer to remember her in Mapp & Lucia and her performance as the Queen in Alan Benett's play about Guy Burgess ( Just looked it up, it was called A Question of Attribution) and also for the canal series with hubby Tim West.
