True story, which could equally go in the 'Claim to Fame' thread I suppose:

His daughter was in my youngest sisters' class in school. They were good pals, and I'd routinely drop her off at their place (he moved his family to where he was shooting so they wouldn't be apart).

Randomly he happened to be pottering about outside one time while I was waiting to pick her up, we got talking, and he invited me over, took me round the set of Jurassic Park 3 then we all had dinner after.

Sad news, RIP sam. One of his lesser-known movies is The Dish about Parkes Observatory's role in relaying live television of the Apollo moonlanding.

It’s still a classic film. Even the special are reasonable.
