Racing bike cover

Hi all

For the past few years I've always kept my racing bike in my office at work so it's always been in a nice clean and dry environment.

I now need to bring it home and keep it in my garage which is a bit damp through the winter. So I'm now looking for a decent cover that will keep the moisture out preventing any rust. My mountain bike has rusted a little over the years due to not being covered and I don't want my expensive racing bike going the same way.

Anyone already using one to protect their bike through the winter months? I've seen plenty for sale on Amazon but wondering if anyone had any personal experience of using these and could recommend a decent one?

be careful with water-proof covers; they allow a micro-climate of moisture that can be ruinous. increasing ventilation to the garage might help, or as s-express suggests.

anyway, why not keep it indoors? take the wheels off and store under a bed if needs must…

As above - I used to dismantle mine and keep it in the loft. It was excessive, but I was young and stupid at the time.

not so stupid. stops you taking it out in the dry and then getting caught in the wet and getting it caked in mud and cow slurry. i know some older and wiser chaps who take the best bike apart for storage in winter…

I did not know bikes should not get wet or dirty. so let me get this right, you buy a bike and do not ride it for half the year in case it gets damp. Seems a bit odd to me and after 47+ years of sporty cycling I would consider my self certainly in the older group.

I always used to put my best bike away for the winter. Pretty much everyone in our club did the same, rightly or wrongly.

Fine, you should be happy doing what you feel is best for you. Just I could not and cannot find any reason not to ride any bike at any safe time.

Thanks guys but I'm not looking to store it away for the winter. I ride all year round. I was just looking for a decent cover that might emulate the same conditions as it being stored inside the house or office.

In that case I suggest a spray on cover, like wd40.
