Not very often I post here, but I have given up on radio 5 at long last,
it has become the refuge of the pub bore...

all stupid opinion and nonsense rolled into one and sometimes that's the presenters even.

Long time listener but I started switching off every time they mentioned soaps, Strictly or X-Factor or had adverts for BBC1 programmes - the radio was hardly on so now I don't bother.

I agree, it's a pity so much of the network's airtime is given over to phone-ins which as you say, tend to attract the ahem...slightly less balanced among us! But phone-ins, although largely moronic, are a radio station's dream format, as they are dead cheap to produce and the punters make the programmes for you. This is why I don't like Radio Cockney (or Tawk Spawt as some call it) as it's just wall to wall Barry from Basildon. Yawn.

As for the rest of Radio 5's output, I'll miss Simon Mayo (who is moving over to god's waiting room- or Radio 2 as it's also known) I believe he is one of this country's most accomplished broadcasters. There were never any dreaded phone-ins either on his show. His Friday programme with Mark Kermode was / is unmissable radio and I'm pleased this part of the show is to remain. I still like 'Drive' although can't stand the name of the show for obvious reasons. Peter Allen is such a wonderful grumpy old git and plays the role superbly. Other than that, I won't miss Richard Bacon (late nights) - he's OK but a little up himself and very London centric.
