Most of our multi-use paths are old right of way, especially around here.

Because we are so tight, no one would think of letting railroad rails just set around. They head to the steel mill, and get melted. There is a move to get the old New York Central Line from Champaign to Bloomington cleared of rails and ties, so a really long bike trail can be installed.

Plates and spikes, too. I did some salvage work along such lines, once.

You can go about 20 miles on these things in Normandy (or ride your bike on the adjacent cycle path).

The US version looks really fun. I don't think I have the head for heights for some of it though. Taking your turn on the front must be hard, it needs more than a flick of the elbow to instigate an overtake.
