Raised stem - what are my options?

If your bike is like the picture, I can't help feeling that you are already in an upright position and raising the bars even higher may not have much effect.

I would defiantly consider clip on bar ends. These will give more variations in position and might help reduce the ache. If you still want to raise the bars, you could look at handle bars like these

These can be rotated from a high position, to a more forward position as you become more adjusted to the position.
It's a long process of experimenting until you find the ideal position.

If flipping the stem doesn't raise it high enough you can use a spacer which will increase the height by some 10 - 12 cms.I brought mine from Revolution.

It's probably worth getting an adjustable stem


That way you can work out what stem helps,or if a different stem helps, in one purchase.
If it's too ugly, you can swap it later for a neater stem in the knowledge of what is required.

First thing first, have you had a bike fit? Aching shoulders could be contributed by bar reach and saddle height. So best eliminate these factors first
