rubbish uphill, downhill 'balast' make me fast

Recently bought a road bike and the swap from mtb wasn't too hard.

Did 60 miles yesterday without too many aches and pains apart from the legs.

I feel although not uncomfortable the bars probably should be higher as I'm rather tall and my seat is very high.

How best do I achieve this?

I've added a pic so you can see difference in height between seat and bars.

It seems you might get a little rise if you flip the existing stem upside down, but if not enough I think the best solution is to get a large rise angle stem from e.g. here after you have figured out what angle and length you want using this. You obviously have to make sure the new stem diameters suit existing steerer and bars.

Good replies from RecordAceFromNew, and I too would recommend trying the different stem rather than the stem raiser. The raisers add a lot of weight to the front end of the bike and will change the handling (perhaps introducing downhill speed wobble).

I would flip the stem over and adjust the angle of the bars / hoods before spending on new parts. I have the same bike as you and also came from years of mtb. To start with i had the stem flipped over and the bars angled up more which raises the whole front end up quite a bit. Now my body is used to a road riding position i have flipped the stem back!
