Aha, the "Raleigh" wording was just a sticker. So that makes the bike a Falcon Harrier Champion which does exist - just reading seeing what is online about it.

That is a link to a bicycle which appears to have the same frame and brakes. Nothing else is the same though!

Hi,

Sorry still no photos! I am going away on a cycling tour tomorrow morning, probably until Monday evening so there will be no progress with the bike then. I will try to get some photos up after that.

Wow! What a superb bodged up beast! That really is cycle recycling at its best. I bet it rides nicely too..... and that saddle needs Sheldon Brown on it, half man - half compost.

Hmmm I'm not a fan of those rims..... more or less zero breaking if any water touches them

Yes, the rims do seem rather bizarre with the diamond patterning. Also the rims are the rustiest piece of the bike, so I might keep an eye out for a bargain and replace them. I'm not sure yet.

Steel pitted rims are useless. The pitts hold the water....and steel rims just do not like brakes anyhow. I managed to replace mine, fingers crossed you can aswell.

Having said that, at pootling pace they are fine

Hi,

Whether or not I replace the rims depends on whether my father wants to keep the bike or not. If he gives it to me, I will replace them.

Tonight I had an hour free and so the bike is almost all in bits. The only bits left on are the ones I don't have the tools to remove - headset, pedals/cranks/BB/chainrings, cassette on rear wheel. These will have to wait until I have tools or a method to bodge them. Or maybe not remove them at all. Again, if I get the bike, I will have the frame repainted so would need to take all the bits off then. Currently I cannot afford to buy anything, let alone more tools.

Lots of cleaning to do next, plus replace cables and a few nuts and bolts...

I had a rummage through my parents' bike shed and found two wheels the same size as this bike's wheels. The rear is also a 5 speed. They are not steel and they don't have the diamond patterning so that should make braking better. Weinmann rims with Mallard hubs.

Any better?
