I'm aware of the American Kool Stop products. Is there an equivalent available over here?
I have no intention of rebuilding my as new wheels with alloy rims, but would happily fit blocks that my antiquated ride will accept and at least add a modicum of improvement over the original 20/30 year old rubber jobbies.
Recommendations welcome.

Leather-faced pads give slightly better stopping in the wet.

Thanks for the quick response, Chris.
The bike pictured has leather faced blocks.
Don't know if age is the cause of the poor performance, but one of my 'Twenties', still fitted with its original blocks and 20 years older stops pretty well.
I'll chase up your other suggestion.

Went to order the 'almost' Kool Stops.
Initially they quote £4.99 (free p&p), but when I try to place an order they immediately ask for £10.99.
Bugger that for a game of soldiers!

EDIT
Went through their colour options ..... the 'racing green' ones do indeed come up as $4.99!
So I ordered those.
All the other colours are £10.99 ... an odd state of affairs.
