I've been commuting, year round for as long as I can remember and taken more than my fair share of abuse, gob, pork pies and what have you. I'm a laid back 46 so it's become water off a duck's back. I hold my ground but don't bother mixing it.

Bizarrely on Sunday I was at a set of lights, mid afternoon sunny day when a middle aged bloke in a MGB, top down, at a set of light beeped at me and shouted: ' get into the side.'
I think because it was so uncalled for I found myself responding in a completely uncharacteristic fashion. I always tell my son's not to swear or react aggresively but that's exactly what I did. I even managed a couple of hand gestures I never normally bother with.

Must say I'm a bit disappointed in myself but I can't explain why I reacted like that.

Sometimes it's necessary.

I did have some shout at me "wear a helmet you ****" the other day, which I thought was a bit odd coming from a driver who wasn't wearing a seatbelt...

You're right - getting into the side of his MGB would've been a much more appropriate response.

LOL! Quality.

So you should be. The appropriate response is to dismount, turn round to ascertain what on earth the driver is beeping at and then after the lights turn to green, set off on your slow and wobbly course.

+1. Happens to me a lot on the bike. ALthough when I had a run in with a WVM last week there was no abusive language exchanged between either of us  which I found somewhat odd!

I'm definitely suffering from this, although mine seems reserved for hills rather than MGB drivers. Interestingly, the steeper the hill, the worse my Tourette's seems to get.

LOL - I think I get it from time to time - but when I do the hand gestures I start wobbling everyware as I lose my balance  somehow loses the desired effect ;)

I almost always 'rise above it' (which is to say, limit myself to an attempt at a look of withering scorn) but sometimes, unpremeditatedly, I find myself bellowing 'F**K OFF YOU W******R!'

Can't say I've ever had any qualms about it....;)

I was up there with the best on the cycling Tourettes but recently and rather curiously, while being seriously closely overtaken I found myself saying shoo, shoo to the miscreant. probably an age related thing.
