And thus it may not be the right tool for the job he needs from it. Maybe a Synapse us more appropriate

But ultimately you need to go ride the bikes. Set a budget and identify good candidates. Size of alleged reduction from RRP should not be the main criteria imo

Definately, and it won't be the bike that'll make the OP faster...

They're not. FSA is perfectly reasonable and reliable kit - no better or worse than anything else.

My Shimano Tiagra Chainrings have lasted more than 3 times as many miles as my FSA Gossamer rings so would say they are a lot worse imo.

With the price of Shimano rings, you would hope so. But anyway, there could be loads of reasons for that. Rings are consumable items anyway.

Hear hear! I read a lot about FSA chainsets before I bought my bike and there were a number of negatives that got me fretting.

Needn't have though- at 4500 miles my FSA Gossamer Pro is faultless.

Looks a lot nicer than some of the Shimano stuff eg Ultegra and latest 105/Tiagra too.

re FSA.
Had an FSA Omega chainset and FSA bottom bracket on my commuter. Nearly 14000 miles in all weathers later I have only just had to change the large chain ring and the bottom bracket.

That in my book. Ain't bad.

Tiagra chainset was actually cheaper than just the rings for the Gossamer chainset , will see how long the new rings lasts , was my first FSA crank so not to impressed by it .
