My sons mate has an MX5 as a drift car. Loads of fun on the track, and doesn't need to worry about rust too much as it has to be repaired (body work) quite often. Lets say it looks a wreck. Check you can get in and out of one Accy.

I know I'd struggle if my back was tired or I'd sat in one too long.

You need a Yaris or a Jazz

Probably not. But with a roofless car you could stuff a telescopic mirror in your tweed jacket as a reasonable alternative.

I know for a fact the seller won't come down in price! He might extend the 'warranty' to 6 months, but that's about it! I had a sit down in one of those Mercs you mention last week. Very nice, but hard to get in and out of and it was 12 grand for a 14 plate. That's a lot to spend for someone who does less that 3000 a year!

I sold my 06 kompessor mint sensible miles for £2500 last year there are plenty about for £2500-£3500

Starting problems always come when the temperature falls as batteries which cope in summer just give up.
For bad starting diesels try a Ford Transit with no glow plugs. Cannot remember the year but I could look it up. Anything under 4C and you have problems. The Transit Forum was full of complaints “ How do I get the effing thing to start in the morning?”

If cold start is an issue then just stick a set of glow plugs in and change the battery. £200 compared to £3000 on the Mx5.

That’s a lot of money for a 19 year old car. I would look for something else.

when did you last replace the battery on your diesel car? Ditto glow plugs. Got to be cheaper than a new car.
MX5s are not cheap in the VED department and you won’t get the mpg that you do with your current car. Just saying.

When i had my last poor starter diesel i'd take the battery out and put it on charge overnight. It was easy as my car was right outside my house. Now i park about 70 yards away and i live in an upstairs flat, so i just could not charge my battery up whatsoever.

I can see the pull Accy, an older man trying to relive his youth .
And if any of those weird people around where you live get jealous or want to settle a score a few seconds with a Stanley knife will leave you with a large bill.

My cousin bought an MX-5 when she retired because she'd always wanted one.... kept it for about 2 months and quickly sold it... not practical and she got bored with it. She now has a two door Rav-4 [I think].

Too small. The new MX5's are very very nice.

Check for rot underneath on the sills and chassis. The Mk1's were terrible for rot. Not sure if they improved the situation on the facelift models...

These were worse. Unless it has been fixed I'd be gobsmacked if the inner sills weren't rusty. Mine were. Can be fixed, but it'll cost. It's also the wrong model: the 6-speed box and 16" wheels aren't a patch on the standard 5-speed with 15".
