Rattling from wheel hub

I am just after cleaning my back wheel and have put the wheel back on to hear a rattling aoming from the hub i think.
What i did was as follows.
1. Used can of degreaser to get all the muck etc of casette, wiped as much as i could with a cloth and then sprayed on WD 40.

Is there a possibility the the dgreaser has messed about with the grease/ball berarings in the hub. I have never heard this noise before and this is the first time i have taken back wheel off to clean it.

Any ideas?

A bit more info

I have the bike resting against the wall and when i turn the pedals anticlockwise the casette is moving and the rattling noise is also audible. Wondering if it is actually the casette rather than the wheel itself!

Is it not just the free hub clicking as you turn the pedals backwards? You may have washed out or diluted the grease with WD40 which can have the effect of amplifying the click.
