The only memory I have, of that series (because I do recall watching it) is a scene where RB's character is rushing to the address/location of a fellow addict, only to discover that, said character, has hung himself.
This is is the clever bit.
The shadow of the hanging body; is, then, cast upon Ray Brooks face, in such a way as to 'explain' what has occurred. Without (IIRC) showing an actual hanging cadaver.
The cinematography of that scene has, for whatever reason, lodged in my head; since: 85? 86?

40 odd years on, and my memory isn't far off I reckon.
Judge for yourself 😁
80 odd minutes well spent. I think.

It was a very entertaining series and highlighted how some gamblers lived their lives. His character was really likeable (imho) and I seem to recall empathising with him, and his missus.

I expect there was a message in it all, especially the suicide scene.

Oh Christ even with the explanation and the smiley you miss it.:banghead:

I think all of us who don't know "The Bill" well would have done. The smiley we would have thought was just because that isn't really the police, it is just acting as police.

And I would have absolutely no idea whether "Polly in The Bill" was actually a character or not, or who might have played her if she was. I suspect the same would be true of most people who have rarely or never watched any of it.
