I’m sure this has been asked countless times before upgrading from my entry bike budget & spec in title - plus maybe one bike packing holiday per year or long weekend-I ride 6-7 days per week recreationally.
Any suggestions most welcome plus the added Brexit/Pandemic supply chain import challenges ?

kind regards HumpTdumpty

Planet X London Road...£800...available in all sizes in a week so no supply issues

Plenty of bike sellers in the U.K. so can’t see why Brexit is really an issue, although Covid has clearly affected availability.

eg the highly rated Sonder Camino but nothing available to order until May/August

adding your required size would be helpful for other suggestions though
Eg if a small frame needed, Tredz have this Boardman with Hydraulic discs
https://www.tredz.co.uk/.Boardman-CXR-8-9-2019-Cyclocross-Bike_127999.htm

or if a double chainring is acceptable. Not restricting yourself to a 1x set up will increase your options as they are still pretty niche (unless you go much more expensive)

or a Ribble, 2x at £1k, most sizes available in either colour
1x is £1600

I've got a London Road. Its been used for all sorts of rides; Audax, light touring, commuting, shopping, pub bike. I built it from a frameset and its had double and triple groupsets, currently running 700x 43mm tyres without guards, but previously had 32-35mm with guards.
Overall a very versatile frameset

This is a 2x Tiagra set up, but it’s an excellent bike for what you describe as your needs, the 2x works really well both on and off road and it’s a very comfy ride, 1x is more for off road use, I have one and I love it.
Don’t forget that the rear cassette on a 1x setup is very expensive when you come to replace it, and there can be gaps between the gears where one it’s just a bit too high, and one below is a bit too low.

Are these available anywhere?

Nah, the Camino is 40/60 road/trail. The Santiago is 60/40 road/trail. But it's a monkey over budget.

Very good bike, though.

I'd look at the genesis croix de fer or cda too. Possible to look at the Whyte
Glencoe - slightly over budget but maybe à 2020? A mate in New Zealand has just bought himself a Ribble CGR and raves about it. Would tick the boxes and in budget.

Of course you just get what you can find nowadays unless you're willing to wait. That's just Brexit/Covid Britain.

I’d go for that but the OP does specify 1x, hence suggesting the Camino.
There is a 1x Santiago though, only a ton over top budget (not sure what a monkey is other than a hairy ape, but the Rival 22 is the same price )

A monkey is £500, and a pony is £25, and a zebra is...

...a striped horse-like animal you find in a zoo.

Many thanks all good input into the melting pot ! Might just have a GT Grade then with a 2x ?
