Hi everyone,
Today i was trying my best to oraginise all my stuff and found my coin collection that my dad gave me. Just a random question does anyone know how much a South African half cent from 1961 would be worth?

I know that its really random and this probably isnt the place to ask but anyways.

Hi Warren, the best thing to do is find a local coin collecter in your area and take it along. You may be dissapointed though. My Father in law had a big box of various coins from around the world, and we managed to get £80 for the lot.

A Nigerian friend found a hoard of Biafran bank notes in his father's house at the village. He asked me to get them valued but sadly they had all been chewed by rats so no cllector was interested. A wad in pristine collection would have been worth something.

in 1961 it was worth 1/2 a cent, more or less, taking into account inflation, now it would be 0.00000000000000000000263 cents, give or take a bit.

you are kidding...? I have several at home.
or was this a special one?

Oh, hang on, 1961 might be when the 'cent' took over from the 'pound'.
You might have a special year then.

"The rand was introduced in 1961, coinciding with the establishment of the Republic of South Africa. It replaced the South African Pound as legal tender, at the rate of 2 rand = 1 pound"http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Shilling
