Thanks for the comments. Went on a long ride today and was noting how often I used the back brake. It was 3 times in just over 70 miles, all to give gentle control on steep downhills. Think I've decided they can stay with the original kit.

I'd changed the front brakes on that bike (my tourer) as soon as I got it, to Kool Stop salmon pinks, and had to put the originals back on in a hurry when I realised I'd worn them down in just over 1000 miles. I put Kool Stop dual compound ones on yesterday, and once I'd used then a few times today was very impressed, so hope they last better.

I do not think a 1000 miles from brake pads is bad when you can get 4 pairs of Dura Ace pads complete for £20.00
