rear mech hanger replacement

On my Dawes Discovery 201 the rear mech hanger snapped and as a rsult the deraileur got sucked into the wheel and mashed up the jockey wheel guides. So both hanger and mech need to be replaced.

I've searched (scoured) the web for replacement hanger but cannot find one. What would anyone suggest?

There are many different types of hanger, so probably best to get in touch directly with Dawes, or your local Dawes dealer.

Yes Pete, straight off. Oddly it seems the only manufacturer not on their list is Dawes!

do not throw the old hanger away - you may find a similar one or be able to make one - easy if it is flat on both side but a lot are stepped.

chain reaction sell a lot of hangers; also check ebay - and ask the ebay seller about yours.

if you do happen to find one, buy a couple to have a spare if you plan to kleep the bike for long.

Dawes customer service just wrote to me advising as follows: "Thank you for your email, you can order them on line from www.betd.co.uk look under the hanger listing and you will need hanger No 25."

They were £19 there, so I googled 'derailleur 25', and looked on eBay, and an American company had the cheapest of all, for £10 incl p&p to the UK, machined from aluminium (not sure if that's the usual stuff, but I'm going to try it), they're also at http://www.925engineering.com

This isn't any longer a resource for the original poster, TheDoctor - it's actually a resource for the entire world, and is the second website (one of only two relevant) which comes up when you google 'Dawes Discovery 201 derailleur hanger'. So your snarky comment is very off-target.

I found this thread so useless to look at, as did I the other site which the above search yields, that I thought I'd better post a decent reply which would help anybody else in the position I found myself in a week ago, needing this unknown derailleur. This page is likely to remain the top search result for any number of years.

Thanks, I did exactly the same as you (Googled and found this thread) and I'm sure other people will do/have done the same . I'd just like to add, however, that if your Dawes Discovery 201 is a 2001/2002 (I think) or earlier model (as mine is), then you actually need hanger 27 instead of hanger 25. I guess this will not apply to most current owners of this bike, but perhaps this extra info could help someone else with an old bike in buying the right part.

It's also worth keeping your eyes open for similar hangers.
I found that a Carrera rear hanger from Halfords went onto my (rather old) Ribble winter frame with a little filing, and was a lot cheaper than the one from betd.co.uk.
