Considering that's the rear wheel, what does the wear on the front wheel look like, as it's the front wheel that takes most of the stopping effort.

The rims are worn, tiny shards of aluminium get embedded in brake pads especially if wet and the rims look bad but they are sound. The walls of the rims are substantial although when I get home I'll be checking them out again. Unless a need to anyway, I always remove tyres every couple of months and inspect the wheels as a matter of course.

Update for anyone interested.
Got home and removed tyre, straightened indentation and checked rim. A brief test ride and everything fine.

Rims are solid, tyres fine.

Proof of the pudding as they say will be a proper test so I intend to get out for a decent ride tomorrow but I'm very confident all will be fine.
