this might seem like a bizarre query (or maybe not) but do different wheels have different rim thicknesses?

I'm trying to set up my rear hydraulic brakes and i can't seem to square them up. It got me wondering if there are different widths of rim that i might try...

Yes they can be different widths, look closely on the wheel and it will show you the width. Assuming you are on a road bike it will say something like 622 x 14, the 14 being the width. I have slightly different width front wheels for jumping between normal tyres and winter tyres on the hybrid and my brakes bite differently on them
