Since taking up cycling this year this will effectively be my first winter. Does anyone have any suggestions for a reasonable priced winter tyre for my btwin road bike

Is there something wrong with the ones already on your bike?

Hello mate. Depends what you're looking for specifically. Shwalbe do a fair old range of tyres for different conditions. I use Marathon Plus 700*25 because of the puncture effectiveness. Haven't found the need for anything else as the roads I use are well travelled on by cars, so ice shouldn't be a problem and I should be fine unless it snows. They come in fairly cheap as well, in comparison to some of the other brands out there. Tough to fit, but it you use this video as a guideline, you should manage each tyre in 15-30 mins max, depending on your thumbs, and it's a good video for any other wire beaded ones as well:

Whatever you choose, have 25c as a minimum and keep the pressure a bit lower than usual. Slightly more contact with the road and a slightly bigger pocket for hitting potholes in the dark.

I run the same tyres all year round on my commuter; Schwalbe Lugano 23mm.

Just remember to check the tyres for gravel, etc. embedded into them.
These were fitted to the Holdsworth when I got it from @biggs682 , I wasn't sure what to make of them at first, but they've been great tyres, light, roll well, grip well enough ( a little bit slippy in the wet), good durability and P*ncture resistance.

i tend to use these on all my bikes and must admit they can be a bit slippy in the wet but overall i like them in 23 size not sure re 25's though as never tried them

Just found this thread looking to ask the same question myself. Had 3 punctures in the last 3 weeks on my Giant Defy on standard rubber.

The 4 season conti's seem to be the popular choice price not an issue.

Going to have to sort something out soon as I'm riding more and more at night and can see the inevitable happening sooner rather than later!

I use Schwalbe Durano + Etape's on my roady, Schwalbe Marathon + on my Btwin crosstrail, Tannus solids on my Boardman Crosstrail. They are all very good, I think I'll keep the Durano's on the roady all year round.

Whatever tyres you fit, you can halve the fitting time by dry lubricating the beads with talc.
