The quays alongside the River Seine in Paris were once used by boats unloading deliveries but 50 years ago they began to be taken over by the motor car. Now the process has been put into reverse, with a mile-and-a-half (2.4km) of quayside reclaimed this year for fun-seekers and pedestrians.

Shame Boris isn't thinking along the same lines, rather than trying to sell London off to the Chinese.

There's also an interesting bit about a supermarket chain deciding to use the river rather than roads to move freight.

Fair weathered, fair minded but easily persuaded.
To be fair we have great pedestrian/cycle access along the Thames in London and more is opening up all the time. We also have a "faux" beach for a couple of weeks in the summer. So apart from Boris continuing this i'm not sure what your point is.

Up until not too long ago i commuted to Putney, lovely wide embankment pavements to Chelsea harbour, short bit of road to Wandsworth Bridge then over it to nice wide embankments again and lovely walks through to Barnes. To be fair tourists don't really stretch much further than that so the money is better spent closer in towards central.
