And also will a ten speed chain work ok on a nine speed block?

don't buy an Sram chain. There are loads of failures posted all over the net. Not very confidence inspiring

The only one I ever bought broke within a couple of hundred miles.

2) Thought 10 speed chains were narrower than 9 speed i.e. sprockets on 10 speed drivetrains are narrower than on 9 speed. Is that not the case? I'd recommend using a 9 speed chain on a 9 speed bike.

Oh, and I concur with opinions on SRAM chains. Never had a failure but they stretch too quickly. KMC are highly regarded in BMX and if it works for BMXers then it's definitely good for the rest of us.

Sprockets are the same on 9 and 10, it is only the spacers which differ.
