This being Pi(e) Day reminded me that I'll be entertaining a few discerning pie eaters this weekend, so I'm looking for recommendations for good quality meat pies (for eating at home). I'll be travelling between Fort William and Glasgow so anywhere along that route, or slightly off it, would be ideal.

I know Vernon would know but I'm not quite ready to get directly in touch with him yet!

I may know just the place...deli on the seafront in Oban had a good range of pies, as did Poppys in Conell just outside...yum! Went last week and put on about 4 stone.

Why meat, this is the recipe Vernon sent me for cooking his favourite pie,

and here's how mine usually turn out,

That's a wee bit more than slightly off the route but noted for future reference as I sometimes go to the wee chippy in Oban. Thanks.

Why meat,

Got to cater for the audience's demands, and they're confirmed carnivores. Yours does look good, I might give that a try another time.
Isn't Pi Day the 22nd of July?
Also March 14 (3/14) for our American friends, and I like the excuse to celebrate it twice!

Yeah the Indian pie doesn't go well with Mash/Gravy/Veg but a nice pile of Salad and one of those just warm still

I ended up trying the Nevis Bakery on Fort William's High Street.

Pies looked small until you picked one up and felt how hefty they were. I couldn't decide on which to get from the choice of fillings: venison, steak &black pudding, and highland beef, so bought two of each. They were absolutely tremendous, I don't know how they packed so much meat into them.
I've no pie pics as I was too busy enjoying them, sorry!

That's just mean, you scoffed six pies and no photo to show for it ?

They were that good! I was simply so engrossed in my chomping that any thought of photos vanished from my head. Look at it this way, I've done you a favour - otherwise you'd be drooling and on the next bus to Fort William.

(I'll see if any of the others took a photo)
