are the zips on the evo any better than on the original NV's?

I think so, sturdier and all invisible when shut, addition of side pockets and chest pocket very useful too.. Very different fabric and has a much lighter feel to it, which suits me as I tend to layer up underneath anyway. Folds nice and compact too for a winter jacket. I only hope the reflectives remain on this one and don't fall off like the original Night Vision I had where they fell off on the arm where the sleeve was creased. opted for the black as already have a hi-vis one and fancied a change. Cheapest on Wiggle as far as I could be bothered to search.

Napoleon pocket zip on my MK II NV leaks like a sieze and takes ages to do up once undone. Main zip toggle came away in my hand early doors. Costs of repair are huge. I still use it but the main zip annoys when on the bike. Will take a look at an Evo in the flesh.

Yeah worth a look, you'll be surprised at the weight and lightness of the new material being used. Try one on, I measured myself and went for a medium but probably could get away with a small, my original NV was a small. The sleeves are long too but not so much that they're too long. Not tested it in the rain yet but seems very useful for the winter and will no doubt get plenty of use. Comes with a light stick thing too which is handy for me as I don't use a rucksack any more and it's very high-vis even without the lights on. Let me know what you think when you get to try one.

I recently bought some (admittedly 'ALDI' ) proper clobber that is just dripping with reflective stripes etc and their flouro-yellow waterproof jacket so feel about as dazzling as I could possibly want - HOWEVER - before all these exciting purchases I cycled (in damp n drizzle) ina semiwaterproof 'Gelert' type jacket and and a yellow flouro/reflective vest/gillet of the type that the French and other authorities insist we always have in our cars in case of breakdown madness.
These can be had for the princely sum of one pound in pound shops or upwards of £3.99 in Halfords, Tesco et all.

Not a lot to pay while you save up for the full 'Angler-Fish' multi prismatic dazzle suit.

On the other other hand.................

I SOMETIMES think that too much hi-viz just gives motorists something to aim for! It's a fine line?

I've used an Aldi jacket before but the main zip wasn't sealed enough to be truly waterproof. Lasted a Winter though so worth the price at the time. Bought the Night Vision the year after and a new one this year. Worth having more than one Winter jacket anyway.

I just wear a standard builders high-viz over whatever I'm wearing, it's only light and has no sleeves so doesn't really make any difference to my temperature when I'm riding. Get a pack of them from Screwfix!
